Things to do

WALKING

Wonderful walks in every direction, with famous hills like Quinag and Suilven close by. Many other less demanding walks for all levels - don't miss the walk to Sandwood bay. We have a good stock of walking books and maps at the house and also see www.walkhighlands.co.uk/sutherland for further ideas and www.culagwoods.org.uk for walks in Assynt.

BIRD WATCHING

This is a treat everywhere you go and I've watched peregrine falcons from the conservatory window. For special trips Handa Island is a must and is reached by ferry from Tarbert only 6 miles away.

The area is famous for brown trout and licences are available in the village for loch and river fishing. Locally caught crabs, lobster and mussels are available.

WILDLIFE

Deer, otters, seals and a wide range of sea birds can be seen. Try a wildlife cruise from Kylesku or Tarbert.

GEOLOGY

The area lies within the Northwest Highlands Geopark - www.knockan-crag.co.uk. There is an information centre and geology trail.
